“You are what you eat”, how is that so? The most basic structure of life is the cell. This is because every function of our body to its most minuscule level is a cell or group of cells working together to create organs and those organs are what keep us going without us even having to think about doing any of these functions. It is truly remarkable how simple structures can uphold something as complex as us.
All these complex functions that group of cells perform are fueled by energy. This is why we still burn calories at rest. This energy comes from food that we eat. This energy from food that we eat is also what brings upon new cells through mitosis. Mitosis is the division of a cell that becomes 2 cells. The quality of energy that performs these function depends on the foods that we eat. When we eat and digest these foods, they are broken down by our digestive system into their building blocks. So protein turns into amino acids. Carbs turn into sugar molecules, fats into glycerol. Through several stages of break down, foods our broken down into ATP. This is what cells use to repair, do their jobs and make new cells.
ATP is used as a foundation for new cells. These cells will provide new functions in your body. So the quality of the cells is linked to the food that you eat. Like I mentioned before cells divide to create new cells, this is because cells are constantly dying. So if your eating low nutrient food your cells are less likely to do their job well. This include fighting off free radicals that can cause disease. Creating vibrant glowing skin. Producing and repairing muscle tissues, etc.
Our appearance, our energy levels, our body’s are all a correspondence to the food that we eat. Make sure your that most of your foods are nutrient dense so that your giving your cells something to work with.
